Originally from Reunion Island, where he was born, Morgan distinguished himself in the very demanding Figaro class before embarking on the adventure of the open sea in the IMOCA class during the 2016 Vendée Globe. Equally at ease at the helm of an IMOCA, an Ultim, on a kite-foil or behind a cockpit (he has his pilot's licence), he is the all-round crew member that many skippers are looking for.
Morgan Lagravière began his career in the Olympics, selected for the French Olympic sailing team. After a stint in the 49er class, he took part in his first Solitaire du Figaro in 2011 and finished first rookie.
He joined the Safran Sailing Team in 2014 where he took over from Marc Guillemot after the 2014 Route du Rhum. He became the skipper of the IMOCA Safran II, the first ocean racing monohull to have foils. With the assistance of Roland Jourdain, whose company Kairos manages the Safran project, he took the start of the eighth edition of the Vendée Globe on 6 November 2016 for his first participation. However, after 18 days of racing, he was forced to retire following damage to his rudder. He was then in 4th position.
After the departure of his sponsor, he tried to reassemble a Vendée Globe campaign, still with Roland Jourdain, but had to throw in the towel due to a lack of a partner. However, he continued in the IMOCA class, accompanying Isabelle Joschke on MACSF in the 2019 Transat Jacques Vabre, an experience that was cut short by a heeling incident shortly after the start in Le Havre that damaged the keel. At the same time, he returned to the Figaro circuit, finishing 2nd in the Transat AG2R in 2018 with Sébastien Simon and the Tour de Bretagne in 2019 with Gildas Mahé. He finally joined the Gitana Team with his sights set on the Jules Verne Trophy at the end of 2020 on the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild, which he will attempt twice in 2020 and once in 2023.
Morgan returned to IMOCA with Thomas Ruyant in the 2021 Transat Jacques Vabre, which they won. Two years later, the duo reunited for the 2023 double-handed season, on the brand new IMOCA FOR PEOPLE.
