Winner of the Vendée Globe 1992-1993, Alain has participated in many sporting challenges: the Solitaire du Figaro (winner of the 1989 edition), the ORMA circuit, the America's Cup, the Boc Challenge, the Route du Rhum, the Transat Jacques Vabre, the Vendée Globe...
As an experienced sailor, he helps other teams and sailors through his company Lanic Sport Développement, founded in 1989. Thus, in 1999, he assisted Ellen MacArthur in 1999 in her preparation for the Vendée Globe (she finished 2nd in the 2001 edition, aboard the IMOCA Kingfisher). In 2009 and 2010, he joined the Swiss team Alinghi, challenger on the America's Cup, as a design team consultant and then helmsman for the development of the team's 90-foot catamaran. Beetween 2004 and 2016, the SAEM Vendée, the Vendée Globe organizing company, convinced by his in-depth knowledge of offshore racing and IMOCA navigation, called on his services in the role of “Mr. security” for the race.
Since 2017, Alain is the team manager of the Voile MACSF IMOCA project with the sailor Isabelle Joschke. After a partnership with GENERALI and MONIN, Isabelle, Alain and their team can rely on the support of the MACSF, their main sponsor since 2019, to line up for the start of the major races on the IMOCA circuit.
